BEPO Keyboard
A small revolution in the world of keyboards, Bépo stands out for its innovative and ergonomic design. This product challenges the standard keyboard layouts (QWERTY and AZERTY), which have remained unchanged since the advent of typewriters.
In fact, these have many drawbacks and are not ergonomic:
- Most of the most frequently used characters are located too far away, forcing the user to make wide hand and finger movements to reach them.
- Conversely, many letters or characters that are rare and rarely used in the French language are the most accessible (“Z,” “K,” etc.).
- The accented letters are too far apart because they are located in the number row
The placement of the letters causes an imbalance in the use of both hands (58% of keystrokes are made with the left hand, even though most of the keys are on the right).
This keyboard was therefore designed to optimize typing when entering text in French, as well as when programming. Its design is based on a statistical and ergonomic study that identifies the most frequently used keys, as well as the position and movement of the hands during typing.
The use of the Bépo keyboard and the rearrangement of its keys thus lead to major improvements:
– Hands tend to stay on the home row—located in the middle of the keyboard—more often
– Both hands are used almost equally
– The top line is used only occasionally for symbols and characters that are rarely used in the French language.
This keyboard is compatible with the vast majority of operating systems (including Windows and Mac OS X) and is easy to set up with a driver and a few computer settings. With all these strengths, is the Bépo keyboard on its way to becoming a new ergonomic standard for French-language keyboards?
